Revolution on Water:

The Revolution Bait Company -
“Hand Crafted, Satisfaction Guaranteed”

By: Andrew D. Buss
At times, a revolution is necessary. It was necessary to birth the greatest nation in the world, and sometimes America’s favorite pastime needs one too. To the knowledge of some, a revolution has been taking place on waters all across the Midwest this season, and especially in Michigan. Thank Scott Taylor of Lincoln Park, Michigan,
for this revolution. He is the owner of Revolution Bait Company and responsible for sore mouthing countless bass.

The Revolution Bait Company was established in September 2010. It was inspired by Taylor’s admiration of others, “I admire those individuals who have the creativity and dedication to create a truly unique product with a personal touch and not some mass produced cookie-cutter fabrication.” However, his own creativity is also exceptional.
Scott Taylor (above) is an active tournament fisherman and has experience as a Pro Rep. As a result he has extensive fishing knowledge through much of the United States.
Revolution Baits offer 6 products: Stingers, Slider Worms, Stick Worms, Kick’r Craw, Cray Z Craw, Finesse Worms, and Gobies. All baits are hand poured and the advantages of this are obvious. Taylor explains, “Hand pouring and injecting gives total control on how a bait will be as a finished product and allows for unlimited combinations.” The advantages go even further. Remember this is not simply a new bait, but a revolution, “Hand crafted soft plastics give us a bond between fishermen, not just as a business relationship, but as people who share the same passion on the water.” In an age when costs are spiraling out of control, this mission is revolutionary.

Taylor has experience as a professional representative in the tackle industry but broke loose of that to, “Take charge of my own destiny.” His products are not replicas; rather, “I saw a gap in the existing lines and decided to fill those, while trying to not ‘Step on toes’ and copy something made from anyone else.” Revolution Bait Company offers two-color craw baits, a five inch craw bait, and big gobies, which are not commonly found
on the market. Taylor rationalizes, “I wanted bigger gobies for the bigger waters, and it was impossible to find a 5” craw for that kicker fish.” Those gaps in the market are now filled.

The revolution is not only about offering rare products, but also in the way they are produced. Taylor explains, “The plastisols used are phthalate-free and are being patented as a ‘green’ compound. Not having this chemical greatly reduces chemical odors. Fewer odors mean more fish.” It is also better for the environment. More fish and eco-friendly is a combination that could potentially help bring liberals and conservatives closer; an unprecedented revolution!
Mark Goetsch (above) landed this smallie during the annual Rusty Reel tourney between Michigan State and University of Michigan. Goetsch's team had the biggest bag. He caught it on a DS fluke. He recalls, "I only had one DS fluke! I gave it to one of the guys and on the first cast, it hooked a fish and broke off. So the state guys caught their fish on the same colored stick worm."
These specialized molds also help the colors and salt stand out more than from traditional molds. Taylor insists, “The colors are not masked.”

29 year old tournament angler, Mark Goetsch of Gibraltar, Michigan, began using Revolution Baits in 2010 and now swears by them. “I fish with soft plastics 75% of the time, and I have all different brands for different baits. But since finding Revolution Baits, I do not buy plastic from anywhere else. They fill all my needs.”

The BFL competitor has used Revolution Baits to place him in the top 20 of the Michigan standings so far this season. He claims, “The baits are perfectly balanced. They do not sink or float. They just stand straight out, and it is amazing!” On the Great Lakes he often partners up his drop shot with a DS Finesse Worm, Stinger, or Goby.

When drop shotting, Goetsch prefers a short leader, “I
get more strikes with a leader only 6 inches long.”
Goetsch caught this largemouth while fun fishing with the brusier rebel craw from under a dock in spring. The water was muddy and the craw was the only bait that produced.
about research and has been part of the research process for Revolution Baits. Goetsch’s Kick’r Craw was his idea. Taylor remembers, “He wanted a trailer for his Brovarney swim jigs so we sat down in the shop to get the chartreuse craws the right color.” It was a job well done. The next day Goetsch took them to the Detroit River and caught several 4 pound smallmouth. It is one of his go-to baits.

To determine colors, Goetsch considers water clarity, time of year, and time of day. However, he is fond of several: “My favorites are Kentucky Creek, New Moon, and Goetsch’s Craw. For the stingers, stick worms, and finesse worms I like the Lake Perch, No. 7, and Paula’s Pick. When it comes to gobies I prefer Victory, BG special and Lake Perch.”
The research process is extensive and is also, in part, what influenced Goetsch to become a user. He claims, “Every bait is looked over carefully to make sure it is perfect.” The goby bait exemplifies this. Taylor laments, “I was dead-set on getting the goby perfect. I studied multiple publications and researched institutes and their findings of how the male goby changes colors between April and September while trying to attract a mate. I went through different shades, flakes, and color combinations. Nearly a dozen tries later, we found the perfect creation.”
Peer pressure influenced Taylor to begin Revolution Bait Company, "I started by playing around with a few simple designs and it eventually grew with more custom requests and finally into a full fledged business."

The bait in highest demand is the Kentucky Creek Orange Kick’r Craw, but Taylor adds, “The Lake
Perch
finesse worms have been flying out the door as well.” The goby also sells well, but Taylor is surprised gobies are not utilized by anglers outside
the Midwest region more.

Anglers with a quality product in their arsenal can be certain, “A new day’s dawn brings a new revolution to fishing.”

While gobies are prevalent on the Great Lakes and their connecting waters, the bait imitates other baitfish as well. Taylor has had this conversation countless times: “I’m amazed that the gobies are so regional. People tell me ‘We don’t have any gobies in our lakes,’ and my response is, ‘Well are there sculpins or other bait fish in your lakes?” The goby imitates these baitfish effectively as well. He adds, “Don’t let the name of the bait fool you.”

Revolution Baits are available in a number of ways. They may be purchased through www.IndependentTackle.com and www.Tackle2Trade.com. They are also available on FaceBook. Taylor has a special offer through the FaceBook page, “If you ‘Like’ our Revolution Bait Company page, you automatically qualify for a 10% discount.” Orders can be made direct by calling Taylor: 313-718-6364.

Revolution Bait Company products come with a guarantee: anyone who is not satisfied will be granted a replacement or refund. But because of the attention to detail and pride taken in production, this is unlikely. Taylor professes, “The bottom line is not the dollar: the bottom line is they have my name on them.”
